Norman Powell played 22 points in Friday’s win over the Wizards, scoring nine points (4-of-8 FGs, 0-of-1 FTs), three rebounds, four assists, one steal, and one 3-pointer.
Due to the nature of Friday’s game, which the Clippers won by a 140-115 final score, Powell was asked to do too much off the bench. However, his role as the team’s top reserve takes on added importance in the aftermath of Russell Westbrook’s broken left hand. Westbrook does not have a timeline yet, but Powell is one player who could be asked to do more playmaking while Russ is out. Bones Hyland played rotation minutes during the second half and accumulated seven assists with just one turnover in 16 minutes. Hyland didn’t shoot the ball well, scoring two points on 1-of-7 shooting, but running the offense will be more critical if he’s entrusted with rotation minutes moving forward.
