The Tigers haven’t decided whether or not to exercise Carson Kelly’s club option for 2024.

The Tigers could keep Kelly for $3.5 million if they want to pair him with Jake Rogers next year, but it’s also quite possible they could non-tender him and re-sign him for less (he’s a little shy of qualifying for free agency if the option is declined). Kelly hit just .173/.271/.269 in 59 PA after being picked up in August. Including his time with the Diamondbacks, he came in at .206/.278/.287 in 151 PA overall. He remains an above average defender, but his bat has been missing since 2021.

Ryan Jeffers is making a rare second consecutive start behind the plate in Wednesday’s Game 2 against the Blue Jays.

The only change from Tuesday is that Jeffers has been dropped to eighth behind Matt Wallner in the order. The Twins almost exclusively had Jeffers and Christian Vázquez alternate games during the regular season. Fortunately, Rocco Baldelli isn’t sticking to that in the postseason.

The Rangers have made no changes to their lineup for Game 2 of the NLDS, which means Robbie Grossman will again DH and hit third against a righty.

The lineup worked yesterday, and by worked, we mean it scored four runs thanks largely to some shoddy defense on the part of the Rays. Grossman went 0-for-4 with a walk from the third spot, but maybe he’s due.

Brewers’ manager Craig Counsell told reporters after Tuesday’s loss that Freddy Peralta will start Game 2 against the Diamondbacks.

The Brewers had Peralta scheduled for Game 3 in the series, but there is no Game 3 if they don’t win on Wednesday, so this decision makes perfect sense. The 27-year-old hurler registered a 3.86 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and a 210/54 K/BB ratio across 165 2/3 innings in 30 starts during the regular season. He’ll square off against Diamondbacks’ right-hander Zac Gallen in the must-win game.

Zack Wheeler pitched 6 2/3 innings of one-run ball and struck out eight as the Phillies defeated the Marlins 4-1 in Tuesday’s Game 1.

It would have been seven scoreless innings if only Wheeler had busted it to first on Jake Burger’s infield single in the seventh. In truth, he shouldn’t have needed to. However, Bryce Harper, still inexperienced at first base, ranged too far off first on what was an easy play for Bryson Stott at second and was in no position to get back to the bag. That one play aside, Wheeler was outstanding. He walked none, and all five hits he allowed were singles. The Phillies will try to end the Marlins’ season when Aaron Nola and Braxton Garrett face off on Wednesday.

Jesús Luzardo took the loss Tuesday after allowing three runs and eight hits in four innings against the Phillies.

A disappointing showing for Luzardo, who delivered quality starts in both of his outings against the Phillies during the regular season. Luzardo got 16 missed swings and walked none tonight, but eight of his 14 balls in play against him went for hits.

Trea Turner went 2-for-3 with a walk and two steals versus the Marlins in Tuesday’s Game 1.

Turner hasn’t done a ton of basestealing in the postseason; he had two steals in his first ever postseason series, the 1996 NLDS, but just six total in 43 games. Tonight, though, he tried two and converted. Including the postseason, that makes 38 successful steals in a row since he was last caught on Sept. 5, 2022.

Jorge Soler went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts in the loss to the Phillies on Tuesday.

It was Soler’s first postseason game since he hit a three-run homer in Game 6 of the 2021 World Series for the Braves. He was the World Series MVP that year. The Marlins are probably going to need him to bust out again if they’re going to score enough runs to go anywhere this October.

In his first career postseason game, Corbin Carroll powered the Diamondbacks to a 6-3 victory over the Brewers in Game 1 of their Wild Card Series on Tuesday evening in Milwaukee.

The 23-year-old superstar got the Diamondbacks on the board and started their comeback effort with a gargantuan 444-foot two-run shot off of Corbin Burnes in the third inning — the second longest home run of Carroll’s young career. He also singled, walked twice and scored a run on Christian Walker’s two-run double in the eighth inning. The Diamondbacks will now attempt to close out the series and advance to the NLDS with a victory over the Brewers on Wednesday night in Milwaukee.
