Jordan Walker went 3-for-4 with an RBI double as the Cardinals triumphed over the Reds 4-3 in their regular season finale on Sunday afternoon.

Walker gave the Cardinals a 2-1 advantage as he drove in Tommy Edman with an RBI double off of Hunter Greene in the third inning. He then raced around to score himself on an RBI double off the bat of Luken Baker. The 21-year-old sensation fared very well in his first exposure to big league pitching — slashing .276/.342/.445 with 16 long balls, 51 RBI and seven stolen bases over 465 plate appearances. The Cardinals need to ensure that he’s locked into a full-time role for the duration of the 2024 season.

The Rangers have made no changes to their lineup for Game 2 of the NLDS, which means Robbie Grossman will again DH and hit third against a righty.

The lineup worked yesterday, and by worked, we mean it scored four runs thanks largely to some shoddy defense on the part of the Rays. Grossman went 0-for-4 with a walk from the third spot, but maybe he’s due.

Brewers’ manager Craig Counsell told reporters after Tuesday’s loss that Freddy Peralta will start Game 2 against the Diamondbacks.

The Brewers had Peralta scheduled for Game 3 in the series, but there is no Game 3 if they don’t win on Wednesday, so this decision makes perfect sense. The 27-year-old hurler registered a 3.86 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and a 210/54 K/BB ratio across 165 2/3 innings in 30 starts during the regular season. He’ll square off against Diamondbacks’ right-hander Zac Gallen in the must-win game.

Z. Wheeler - SP

Zack Wheeler pitched 6 2/3 innings of one-run ball and struck out eight as the Phillies defeated the Marlins 4-1 in Tuesday’s Game 1.

It would have been seven scoreless innings if only Wheeler had busted it to first on Jake Burger’s infield single in the seventh. In truth, he shouldn’t have needed to. However, Bryce Harper, still inexperienced at first base, ranged too far off first on what was an easy play for Bryson Stott at second and was in no position to get back to the bag. That one play aside, Wheeler was outstanding. He walked none, and all five hits he allowed were singles. The Phillies will try to end the Marlins’ season when Aaron Nola and Braxton Garrett face off on Wednesday.

Jesús Luzardo took the loss Tuesday after allowing three runs and eight hits in four innings against the Phillies.

A disappointing showing for Luzardo, who delivered quality starts in both of his outings against the Phillies during the regular season. Luzardo got 16 missed swings and walked none tonight, but eight of his 14 balls in play against him went for hits.

Trea Turner went 2-for-3 with a walk and two steals versus the Marlins in Tuesday’s Game 1.

Turner hasn’t done a ton of basestealing in the postseason; he had two steals in his first ever postseason series, the 1996 NLDS, but just six total in 43 games. Tonight, though, he tried two and converted. Including the postseason, that makes 38 successful steals in a row since he was last caught on Sept. 5, 2022.

Jorge Soler went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts in the loss to the Phillies on Tuesday.

It was Soler’s first postseason game since he hit a three-run homer in Game 6 of the 2021 World Series for the Braves. He was the World Series MVP that year. The Marlins are probably going to need him to bust out again if they’re going to score enough runs to go anywhere this October.

In his first career postseason game, Corbin Carroll powered the Diamondbacks to a 6-3 victory over the Brewers in Game 1 of their Wild Card Series on Tuesday evening in Milwaukee.

The 23-year-old superstar got the Diamondbacks on the board and started their comeback effort with a gargantuan 444-foot two-run shot off of Corbin Burnes in the third inning — the second longest home run of Carroll’s young career. He also singled, walked twice and scored a run on Christian Walker’s two-run double in the eighth inning. The Diamondbacks will now attempt to close out the series and advance to the NLDS with a victory over the Brewers on Wednesday night in Milwaukee.

Gabriel Moreno blasted a go-ahead solo homer in the fourth inning on Tuesday night, propelling the Diamondbacks to victory over the Brewers in Game 1 of their Wild Card Series.

The Diamondbacks utilized home runs from Corbin Carroll and Ketel Marte in the third inning to wipe out an early 3-0 deficit. Moreno then led off the fourth inning with a mammoth 425-foot blast off of Corbin Burnes to give the Diamondbacks a 4-3 lead they would never relinquish. The hard-hitting backstop finished the evening 1-for-4 plus a walk. The Diamondbacks will not attempt to close out the series in Milwaukee on Wednesday evening.
