The Vikings played it safe with their superstar receiver and it looks like it’ll pay off. With the Vikings having a bye in Week 13, it’ll give Jefferson even more time to rest his hamstring. It looks like we could see him back in Week 14, just in time to push you through to the fantasy playoffs.

NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reports the Vikings won’t activate Justin Jefferson (hamstring) for Monday night’s contest against the Bears.

This was always the most likely outcome. Jefferson has been practicing with the Vikings for nearly three weeks and carried questionable tags into each of the team’s last two games. The star receiver is reportedly “very close” to returning but not close enough. Jefferson and the team have remained adamant that he wouldn’t return at less than 100 percent, and with a Week 13 bye on tap for the Vikings, the star receiver gets two more weeks of recovery before suiting up in Week 14 against the Raiders. Jefferson will be back in due time, but fantasy managers who have gotten by without him over the last six weeks will have to survive two more before he’s back. Jordan Addison will have top-24 upside in prime time against the Bears, with KJ Osborn being a fringe WR3/WR4.

Justin Jefferson said his recovery from a hamstring injury has gone well, but he’s not sure if he will be ready to play in Week 12 against the Bears.

“If I’m feeling good, I will play.” This is what Jefferson had to say when speaking with the media on Friday. He also said he’s been able to reach top speeds in practice, but his Week 12 status appears very much up in the air. To make matters worse, the Vikings don’t play until Monday, meaning fantasy managers will have to decide whether or not they should risk starting him and have a lower-end option as a backup plan, or play a less-risky option altogether. Jefferson has practiced during the week, but that’s not unusual at this point. Barring an early, more optimistic report on his availability, fantasy managers may be looking at sitting him again this weekend.

Officially labeled as questionable for the Vikings’ Monday night game, it looks like Jefferson will be held out until the Vikings return from their bye in Week 14 against the Raiders. Jefferson has practiced in a limited capacity over the past two weeks and should be a full go when he returns in two weeks. Until then, T.J. Hockenson and Jordan Addison will continue functioning as the team’s top two pass catchers.

This is quickly turning into a fantasy football manager’s worst nightmare. Jefferson has already missed the four games required of a player on injured reserve, and has now missed an additional two since the team opened his 21-day window for return. Speaking Monday, head coach Kevin O’Connell said, “we do have to be smart,” when it comes to getting Jefferson back on the field, hinting at Jefferson missing Week 12 against the Bears. As if that’s not bad enough, the Vikings have a Week 13 bye on tap, which means fantasy managers would have at least two more weeks without Jefferson if he doesn’t suit up this weekend. Jefferson has practiced each of the last two weeks and is by all accounts trending toward a return, but the Vikings have shown little urgency to play him at less than 100 percent.

The Vikings’ star receiver is trending toward a return, but whether or not that return will come in Week 11 is still up in the air. The Vikings still have time to sit Jefferson, as his 21-day window for return was only opened a week ago. Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell said earlier in the week that Jefferson is in the “day-to-day ramping-up phase,” giving us little to go on as far as Week 11 is concerned. He’ll likely draw a questionable tag on Friday, making his availability one to monitor throughout the week. Unfortunately for fantasy managers, the Vikings play on Sunday night, meaning those hoping to start him may need a late-game and/or Monday night contingency in place if he is ultimately ruled out.

Smith, A.J. Brown, and D’Andre Swift were all estimated as limited for Wednesday’s walkthrough. All three played through their injuries last week and will almost certainly do so again versus the 49ers in Week 13. Smith has seen an uptick in targets since Dallas Goedert went down. Goedert will likely sit again this week, keeping Smith near the top of the WR2 ranks.

Rockies OF prospect Zac Veen (hand) went 1-for-1 with a stolen base on Tuesday in Puerto Rico Winter League action.

It was Veen’s first game action since undergoing season-ending left hand surgery back on June 22. The 21-year-old outfielder — MLB Pipeline’s 92nd-ranked prospect — possesses game-changing speed and stolen base prowess, but was limited to just 46 games this past season for Double-A Hartford due to injury. He’ll make up for lost development time this winter before heading to spring training. There’s a decent shot he makes it to the big leagues at some point during the 2024 campaign.

Miller is on the injury report after spraining his ankle during the second quarter of Tuesday’s loss to the Knicks. Swift gets a tough matchup with the 49ers’ stalwart defense this week. Still, operating as the lead-back on one of the best offenses in football will keep him in the RB2 ranks for Week 13.
