ESPN's Jeremy Fowler said the Chiefs believe Kadarius Toney can be the "No. 1 type receiver" they're looking for this season.
This news comes on the heels of Fowler's appearance on ESPN Radio, where he discussed the possibility of the Chiefs signing DeAndre Hopkins. Fowler noted that while the Chiefs are interested in signing Hopkins, their confidence in Toney could prohibit them from being as aggressive as other teams on the market for Hopkins' services. Toney's explosiveness has never been in question, but the former first-rounder has struggled to stay healthy through his first two seasons. If he's able to play a near-full slate of games in 2023, his upside while tethered to Patrick Mahomes could make him a screaming value in fantasy.

ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reports the Bills and Chiefs are in an "arms race" for free agent WR DeAndre Hopkins.
Fowler notes that he doesn't believe either team is "overly concerned" about landing Hopkins but that both would like to ensure Hopkins doesn't end up with the other team. He also adds that he doesn't expect the Chiefs to be as aggressive in their pursuit of Hopkins because the team believes that Kadarius Toney can be a true No. 1 receiver in 2023. The Browns and Jets could also be players in the Hopkins sweepstakes, although they don't appear to be the favorites at this time. Both the Bills and Chiefs were involved in "substantive" trade talks for Hopkins according to Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer earlier this week, and could still be the odds on favorite to sign him.

The New York Post's Brian Costello and Ryan Dunleavy report Quinnen Williams and the Jets are "not that far apart" on a contract extension.
This is reportedly the feeling inside the Jets' building as they continue to hammer out a new deal with Williams. Williams saw Giants defensive lineman Dexter Lawrence sign a four-year, $90 million extension earlier this month, which should help serve as grounds for Williams' next contract. Entering the final year of his contract, Williams has been absent from voluntary workouts as the two sides continue to negotiate, but there is reportedly hope that a deal could be in place in the coming weeks. When asked if he was worried about Williams' signing an extension, head coach Robert Saleh said, "I'm not worried at all. That thing will get done, and he'll be here."

ESPN's Michael DiRocco writes the Jaguars "didn't want to see" Travis Etienne taking 74 percent of the running back carries again.
That figure comes from how often the Jaguars used Etienne after jettisoning James Robinson. Jaguars coach Doug Pederson praised the depth added at running back in D'Ernest Johnson and Tank Bigsby, saying "this is one of the stronger rooms on the team." Etienne said of a committee approach: â??I feel like it keeps the wear and tear off my body ... I donâ??t have to go and bang myself up each and every play." Jaguars OC Press Taylor said the team doesn't have a breakdown of how it will go just yet, but added that "there's a possibility of keeping everybody fresh through the long run of the season." Etienne's ADP is hovering near 40 and he stands to be on the strong side of a committee, but it very well could be a committee this year for the Jaguars now that they've invested in the position.

Profootballtalk's Mike Florio reports Jimmy Garoppolo can be released without penalty by the Raiders this summer because of his 2022 foot injury. 
Garoppolo's deal originally included an $11.25 million signing bonus, but that was converted to part of his base salary after he failed his Raiders physical this spring. Garoppolo can be cut for "any reason" related to his foot, but his $22.5 million salary becomes guaranteed once he "passes a physical exam, is active for at least one regular-season game, and does not suffer re-injury to his left foot." It would certainly seem Garoppolo's physical was most disturbing to the Silver and Black. What was already looking like a questionable signing now has the makings of a potential fiasco.

Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer reports the Chiefs and Bills were the only teams to have "substantive" trade talks with the Cardinals for WR DeAndre Hopkins.
Breer adds that contract details prevented either team from pulling the trigger before the NFL Draft and that Kansas City appeared to be close to a deal before Odell Beckham signed a one-year, $15 million contract with the Ravens. The Chiefs would seem to make more sense for Hopkins considering their glaring need for a prototypical X-style wide receiver, whereas the Bills already have one of the best X receivers in the game in Stefon Diggs. Both teams have significant cap issues, which seemingly means very little in today's NFL as teams have multiple tools at their disposal to save against the cap including restructures, deferred guarantees, and converting portions of contracts to signing bonuses.
