Reds agreed to terms with 2B Jonathan India on a two-year contract.

It’s worth $8.8 million and includes up to an extra $2.05 million in bonuses, according to MLB.com’s Mark Sheldon. There was much speculation about an India trade back when the Reds had one extra infielder at the beginning of the offseason. Now they have two extra infielders after signing Jeimer Candelario, but it still seems like India will stay put and split time between second, first and DH. India has been average at best since winning NL Rookie of the Year honors in 2021, posting a 97 OPS+ the last two seasons. His 2023 was more encouraging than his 2022, when he dealt with multiple injuries, and a modest offensive rebound seems likely. Still, given their quality alternatives and that there were several teams seemingly interested in making him their second baseman, the Reds might have been better off moving him.
