Jon Morosi of MLB.com reports that right-hander Johnny Cueto has continued his throwing progression and is still hopeful that he’ll land with a big league team for the 2024 season.

The 37-year-old hurler became a free agent back in November when the Marlins declined his $10.5 million club option. Cueto was a trainwreck in 13 appearances (10 starts) for the Fish in 2023 — registering a cringe-inducing 6.02 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and a 39/15 K/BB ratio over 52 1/3 innings of work. When healthy, he has proven to be a valuable innings-eater in the past though, so teams that are short on rotation depth could see him as a worthwhile gamble. It’s tough to envision him landing anything more than a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training though. Feb 05 4:00 pm (EST)
