Sean Rodriguez was involved in a car accident on Sunday and is said to be in stable condition.

He was driving with his family when they were T-boned by someone driving a stolen police car. His wife is okay, but was in the hospital, and his children are in serious, but stable condition. Thoughts and prayers go out to the Rodriguez family.

Mark Canha (hip) has added 10 pounds this offseason. He feels great and won't be limited in any way this spring.

Canha had surgery in May last season to repair a left hip impingement and labral tear. He had a good rookie season in 2015 and seems to be ready for 2017 after adding the extra muscle. He won't have any limitations in spring training and could be a sleeper in fantasy leagues this season.

Manager Bob Melvin says he will ease 2B Jed Lowrie (toe) in during the spring.

Lowrie had surgery in August to repair ligament damage in his left foot. Lowrie seems to be recovering well and hasn't suffered any setbacks at this time. He turns 33 this season and with a batting average of .246 over the last two seasons he isn't worth drafting in most leagues.

Manager Bob Melvin hopes C Josh Phegley (knee) will be ready for spring training.

Back in August Phegley was treated for synovitis in his right knee. This injury is usually very painful and requires for the synovial membrane to be removed. Playing catcher is a ton of stress on the knees so the Athletics will be cautious with him and not rush him back until he is 100 percent healthy.

Mike Moustakas said his knee is "almost 100 percent." He shouldn't have limitations in the spring, but'll likely have a slower schedule than usual.

Moustakas had ACL surgery last May and shouldn't have any limitations once Spring Training starts. The Royals will bring him back slow to make sure he is fully healthy for the start of the season. Before the injury, Moustakas played in 27 games in 2016 and had a batting average of .240 with seven home runs and 13 RBIs.

Gerardo Parra is feeling strong and has fully recovered from his high ankle sprain.

Parra was only able to play in 102 games in 2016, and largely disappointed owners who expected big things with the move to Coors Field. It is unclear what his role will be going forward, but most signs point to a platoon. He is not someone to target in most formats, unless he is able to win a job outright in the Spring.

Mookie Betts will not have any restrictions when spring training begins.

Betts had his knee scoped and had some "loose bodies" removed in the off season, which will cause him to miss the World Baseball Classic. Betts is a consensus first rounder heading into 2017, and it is easy to see why after he filled the stat sheet with 31 homers 113 RBI, 26 steals and 122 runs. Hitting in a talented Red Sox lineup, there is no reason to believe he will not post a similar season in 2017.

Victor Martinez had hernia surgery in October.

In 154 games in 2016 the veteran hit .289/.351/.476 with 27 homers and 86 RBI. Martinez only started 5 games at first, so his days in the field are all but over, which pigeonholes him in fantasy to your DH spot. His numbers speak for themselves however, and you could do much worse in your DH spot come draft day.

Dallas Keuchel (shoulder) has been playing catch three times a week.

Keuchel finished the season on the DL due to an ailing shoulder. He had a horrible follow up to a fantastic breakout 2015, finishing with a 4.55 ERA over 168 innings, with a 1.29 WHIP. He'll be far cheaper this draft day than in past years, but unless he regains some of his previous velocity and command, that's where he will finish the season as well.

Jake Diekman underwent successful surgery on his colon.

Diekman had surgery today to treat his colitis, which is a very painful digestive condition. The Rangers pitcher has dealt with colitis for his entire career but the condition got worse recently which prompted Diekman to opt for surgery. He's expected to miss at least half of the season for Texas. The 30-year-old appeared in 66 games out of the bullpen in 2016, notching 26 holds and sporting a solid 1.17 WHIP.

Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports that Erick Fedde’s decision has come down to the White Sox and the Mets.

The 30-year-old right-hander is expected to land a two-year contract worth more than $5 million annually. He resurrected his career with an unbelievable season for the NC Dinos in the Korea Baseball Organization in 2023 where he went 20-6 with a 2.00 ERA, 0.95 WHIP and 209 strikeouts in 180 1/3 innings. Feinsand also notes that the deal could be finalized as early as Tuesday. Stay tuned.

Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports that the Cardinals are interested in a reunion with right-hander Jordan Hicks.

Heyman also notes that the Orioles, Astros and Rangers are among the other teams that are interested in the flame-throwing hurler. Hicks compiled a 3.29 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and an 81/32 K/BB ratio over 65 2/3 innings between the Cardinals and Blue Jays during the 2023 campaign. He’s likely to wind up in a setup role in most of those landing spots, which would limit his overall appeal from a fantasy perspective.

According to Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union Tribune, the Padres are involved in discussions to bring back catcher Gary Sánchez.

Sánchez provided some pop for the Padres in 2023, crushing 19 homers in only 72 games, so it’s understandable to see that they’re interested in bringing him back. Acee notes that while no deal is imminent, there is interest on both sides. The deal is expected to land somewhere in the $7 million range annually.

Scott Mitchell of TSN reports that the Blue Jays have been receiving calls from teams interested in acquiring infielder Davis Schneider.

The 24-year-old put himself on the map with a strong season in the minor leagues in 2023 — then went on to hit .276/.404/.603 with eight homers, 20 RBI, one stolen base and a 43/21 K/BB ratio across 141 plate appearances at the big league level. If he’s able to land a regular role in the big leagues — with the Jays or elsewhere — he could have some late round appeal as a middle infield option in deeper fantasy leagues.

Astros’ general manager Dana Brown said Monday that Forrest Whitley will report to spring training as a reliever.

The oft-injured 26-year-old hurler was also given a fourth option year posted a disappointing 5.70 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and a 32/17 K/BB ratio over 30 innings in eight appearances (six starts) at Triple-A Sugar Land in 2023. Brown also told reporters that they will get a fourth option year on Whitley. It’s hard to envision him carving out any sort of fantasy value if he’s stuck in the middle innings for the Astros.

Athletics general manager David Forst told reporters Monday that Mason Miller will work out of the team’s bullpen in 2024.

Forst noted that a move back to the starting rotation can’t be ruled out at some point, but as of now they’re looking at a bullpen role for him — and possibly as their closer. The flame-throwing 25-year-old registered a 3.78 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and a 38/16 K/BB ratio over 33 1/3 innings in his first taste of big league action last season. If he does indeed open the season as the A’s closer, his fantasy draft stock will soar, but it certainly diminishes his long-term fantasy outlook.

Brandon Lowe (knee) told reporters on Monday that he’s fully recovered from his broken right kneecap and should have no limitations for the remainder of the offseason.

That means Lowe should be able to go through his regular offseason routine without any issues. He had his season end prematurely when he fouled a ball off of his right knee on September 22. Overall, injuries limited Lowe to 109 games in 2023 — where he slashed .231/.328/.443 with 21 homers, 68 RBI and a career-high seven stolen bases in 436 plate appearances.
