Thursday’s World Cup DFS slate is noteworthy because it is our last time in this World Cup trying to guess at what these teams are. On Friday we get the second games for Groups A and B, so we are finally able to react to what we witnessed early in the week. Thursday’s games feature three big favorites, in Brazil, Portugal and Uruguay. Unlike Wednesday’s slate, I don’t see a lot of value in going away from those top teams, though if this first week of group play has taught us anything, it is to always be prepared for a surprise out of nowhere.

2022 World Cup DFS Soccer Picks November 24

World Cup Goalkeepers

Diogo CostaPORGHA5800013
This is a lot to pay for a keeper when I don't entirely trust his defense. That being said, Costa has conceded just three goals and kept four clean sheets in seven starts for Portugal. Opponents have converted just 15 of 26 penalties against Costa so there is a chance for some bonus points if Portugal concedes a penalty.
Kim Seung-GyuKORURU410009
I'm not sure there is a good reason to fade the top goalkeepers but if you decide to, Seung-Gyu has the least-scary matchup.

World Cup Forwards

Darwin NunezURUKOR8100019
Nunez has the most non-penalty xG per 90 minutes of anyone in the Premier League this season. He isn't crazy expensive but that could change after this game.
He had eight goals and eight assists in World Cup qualifying. Most of the top-tier players have big question marks and I am inclined to just avoid the potential headaches and pay up for Neymar.
Cristiano RonaldoPORGHA1040021.4521
Ronaldo's club form is basically non-existent, but he has the backing of his manager and a matchup with the lowest-ranked team at this tournament. He may turn into a pumpkin when the competition improves and his defense becomes more of a liability, but that is a problem for four days from now. If Ronaldo's drama with Manchester United keeps his ownership low, that is even better.
Aleksandar MitrovicSERBRZ860012.3716
Mitrovic has proven in the Premier League that he can score against anybody. I think you will get low ownership due to the matchup and I think we are getting a decent shot at a goal for his price.

World Cup Midfielders

Bernardo SilvaPORGHA74005.4616
Silva hasn't played much of an attacking role with Manchester City this season but he is much more involved for Portugal. He led them in chances created and assists in qualifying.
I don't know if I can bring myself to pay up for him on DK, but I cannot ignore his FanDuel price. I don't think Richarlison has been good for his club for a few years, but he always seems to deliver for his country. It also helps that he is healthy now after missing several games for Tottenham.
Mohammed KudusGHAPOR3300014
I think most fantasy players, if they use anyone from Ghana, will gravitate towards Jordan Ayew due to his name recognition, and I don't hate that call. But Kudus has five goals and three assists in 18 appearances for Ghana, and I like him as a sneaky punt play. Kudus could be on corners as well.
Federico ValverdeURUKOR6200015
It looks like Valverde will be on set pieces for Uruguay, and South Korea struggles to defend crosses and track runners into the box. Valverde looks like one of the players best positioned to take advantage of that.
Vinicius JuniorBRZSER7700017
With nine goal involvements in 14 games for Real Madrid, the 22-year-old looks like the next big attacker for Brazil. That form hasn't translated to attacking returns with the national team just yet but considering his price on DraftKings, I am willing to take a shot.

Andrija ZivkovicSERBRZ42004.2812
He won't be on set pieces, but I don't believe that is worth the extra $1900 you need to pay for Filip Kostic. Zivkovic sent in three crosses in 15 minutes against Brazil in 2018 and while I don't believe we should read much into that, it at least shows it is possible.

World Cup Defenders

Tariq LampteyGHAPOR330009
Lamptey is one of three players to switch countries and debut for Ghana in September. He is always capable of attacking off the wing and while he may not get too many opportunities to do so against Portugal, he doesn't need amny at his price.
Mohammed SalisuGHAPOR2600012
Daniel Amartey is one of just two players to play all eight games under manager Otto Addo, so if you are not sure if you'll be able to adjust your lineups before kickoff, feel free to pivot. That being said, Salisu is a proven commodity in the Premier League and I think both center backs should get a lot of clearances and tackles in this matchup.
Joao CanceloPORGHA7200014
Only Poland assisted more goals on crosses in qualifying than Portugal, and Cancelo is a big part of that. He also scored twice in Portugal's six friendlies since they qualified for Europe.
Kim Min-JaeKORURU280009
I like his chances to accumulate defensive stats in this matchup, and he is a threat on set pieces as well. He is a better FanDuel play but he is worth a shot in DK tournaments.
Guillermo VarelaURUKOR31009.198
This is as much about the matchup as anything else, though I don't really think there is anything wrong with that at the price. Korea is susceptible to crosses and I believe Varela will have some opportunities to send them in.
