PGA DFS Preview: Arnold Palmer Invitational
Andrew Phelps brings you a DFS PGA preview of the Arnold Palmer Invitational
PGA DFS Coverage for the Arnold Palmer Invitational
The Florida swing of the PGA Tour schedule continues about two and a half hours north at Bay Hill Golf Club. Arnold’s signature event brings out a fantastic field of golfers for one of the “designated events” on the schedule. While it has never been the same since “The King” left us seven years ago, his spirit still looms on the grounds. Scottie Scheffler took down the 2022 edition at just five under par for the week. That was the fourth straight year that this tournament ended with a winner at 12 under or less. Arnold did not go easy on these players when he designed this course, it will challenge even the best players in the world.
The Field: Arnold Palmer Invitational
Defending champion Scottie Scheffler leads a terrific field into Bay Hill. 2022 FedEx Cup Champion Rory McIlory, Tyrrell Hatton, Jason Day, and Francesco Molinari are all previous winners of this event in the field this weekend. All in all, 44 of the Top 50 players in the world are set to play at Arnie’s event. We’ve spoken about what it means to be a “designated event” on the PGA Tour, the Top 20 golfers in the Player Impact Program from 2022 are required to play. Each of those players are allowed one skip during the course of the season. All 13 winners on the PGA Tour this season will be in attendance. The purse for this event is once again 20 million dollars and the winner will take home 3.6 of it..
The Course: Bay Hill
This course is no walk in the park for these professionals. It is considered one of the toughest non major courses on the schedule. It sits as a Par 72 and is 7,466 yards long. The last four winners have finished -5, -11, -4, and -12 which comes out to an average of -8. Bay Hill will challenge all facets of the golfer's game starting with the tee shot. Players must land on the fairway for any chance to hit these small greens in regulation. That’s because this rough is punishing and the smart players on tour will keep their driver holstered. These players will not be able to completely avoid the rough, so scrambling will be vital to success. Distance is a luxury but not a necessity on this course. These players will need their “A” game right from the start at Bay Hill because the opening three holes are considered the toughest on the Tour.
The Weather: Bay Hill, Florida
The weather looks to be great on Thursday and Friday with temperatures in the low to mid 90s with some humidity in the air. The temps will drop into the 70s once we get to the weekend with a good chance for rain throughout the day on Saturday. We should have a dry final round on Sunday with temperatures in the mid-70s. .
