The Blue Jays also confirmed Monday that Chris Bassitt would take the ball in Game 3 of the Wild Card Series if necessary.

The Jays will turn to Kevin Gausman in Game 1 on Tuesday followed by José Berríos in Game 2. If the series does go to three games, Bassitt isn’t a bad option to have to turn to. The 34-year-old hurler went 16-8 with a 3.60 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and a 186/59 K/BB ratio over an even 200 innings across 33 starts during the regular season.

Blue Jays’ skipper John Schneider announced Tuesday that José Berríos will start Game 2 of the Wild Card Series against the Twins.

The Jays will roll out Kevin Gausman against Pablo Lopez in Game 1 on Tuesday, then Berríos will do battle against Sonny Gray and his former teammates. The 29-year-old right-hander did a nice job over 32 starts during the regular season, posting an 11-12 record, 3.65 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and a 184/52 K/BB ratio over 189 2/3 innings of work.

According to Dan Hayes of The Athletic, Royce Lewis (hamstring) is expected to return for Game 1 of the Wild Card Series against the Blue Jays on Tuesday.

The 24-year-old infielder made it through Monday’s workout without any issues and is tentatively expected to be included on the Twins’ 26-man roster for their playoff opener against the Blue Jays on Tuesday afternoon in Minnesota. Lewis has been sidelined since September 19 when he suffered a left hamstring strain. He has been a force in the Twins’ lineup when healthy this season — slashing .309/.372/.548 with 15 homers, 52 RBI and six stolen bases in only 239 plate appearances.

Byron Buxton (knee) did not take part in the Twins’ on-field workout on Monday.

The Twins have until 10:00 AM on Tuesday to finalize their roster for the Wild Card Series, and it doesn’t sound like Buxton is going to be ready in time. The 29-year-old has been sidelined since early August due to a right hamstring strain — and then experienced soreness in his knee while on a minor league rehab assignment while working his way back. There’s still no clear timetable for when he may be ready to return.

The 34-year-old infielder was designated for assignment last week and passed through waivers unclaimed, but rather than accepting an outright assignment to Triple-A Gwinnett, Adrianza has opted to explore the open market. He went 0-for-10 with a 4/1 K/BB ratio in 11 plate appearances during his limited time with the Braves this season.

The 33-year-old right-hander had been designated for assignment by the Rays on Saturday, but he passed through waivers unclaimed and will continue to function as extra depth as they head into the postseason. Blue Jays’ manager John Schneider confirmed Monday that Kevin Gausman will get the ball for Game 1 of their Wild Card Series against the Twins.

The assignment for Gausman comes as no surprise, as the 32-year-old hurler has been the ace of the Blue Jays’ staff all season and wasn’t needed to pitch in the regular season finale. Over 31 starts during the regular season, Gausman compiled a 12-9 record, 3.16 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and a 237/55 K/BB ratio over 185 innings of work. He had mixed results in two starts against the Twins this season — allowing just one run over 5 1/3 innings while striking out eight in a victory over the Twins in Minnesota back in May, while getting crushed for six runs on seven hits across 4 2/3 frames in Toronto in mid-June.

Brewers released INF Brian Anderson.

The 30-year-old infielder had been designated for assignment earlier in the week and will now hit the free agent market. Anderson got off to a hot start with his new team in 2023, but would up slumping big time in the second half — slashing just .226/.310/.368 with nine homers and 40 RBI overall on the season. He should be able to find a team willing to give him a shot at a bench job next spring.
