An arbitrator has awarded Yakov Trenin a two-year contract.

The deal has an average annual value of $1.7 million. That leans more towards what the Predators filed for through salary arbitration, which was a two-year deal with an AAV of $1.35 million. Trenin recorded 17 goals, 24 points, 136 shots and 191 hits in 80 games during the 2021-22 season.

According to sources, there hasn't been much in the way of dialogue between the two sides even though they have both expressed interest in getting something done. Dallas' salary cap situation and a lack comparable contracts are believed to be among the stumbling blocks. Oettinger has displayed plenty of potential, but the Stars may also take a cautious approach.

Jason Zucker is healthy and excited for the upcoming season after injuries sidetracked him in 2021-22.

"I was chasing the whole year, and it's unfortunate," said Zucker. "But everyone goes through that at some point in their career, and for me it just happened to be last year. So I'm excited to get that out of the way. It's a contract year for me, so I'm coming ready to play." He will be eligible for unrestricted free agency next summer once his five-year, $27.5 million contract is completed. In 41 appearances during the 2021-22 campaign. Zucker registered eight goals and 17 points, but he has plenty of bounce-back appeal if he can stay healthy.

Jonathan Huberdeau has agreed to an eight-year contract extension with the Calgary Flames.

The deal, which will start in 2023-24 and run through the 2030-31 season, will have an average annual value of $10.5 million. "I'm thrilled to be part of the Calgary Flames organization long-term," Huberdeau said. "I'm excited for this new chapter and I am committed to this team. I'll give everything I have, on and off the ice and I can't wait to play in front of the passionate Flames fans." He amassed 30 goals and 115 points in 80 games last season with the Florida Panthers. He was traded to Calgary this summer in a blockbuster deal that sent Matthew Tkachuk to Florida.

Miles Wood has signed a one-year contract with the New Jersey Devils worth $3.2 million.

The club-elected salary arbitration hearing between the two sides was scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 6, but that won't be necessary now. Wood was limited to just three games during the 2021-22 season because of a hip injury that required surgery. He had 17 goals and 25 points in 55 matches during the 2020-21 campaign.

The deal reportedly has an average annual value of $3.25 million. "Mario has shown that he is a dynamic and reliable defenseman for our club, skating top-level minutes against the best competition every night and delivering solid results," said Sharks GM Mike Grier. "His energy and work ethic are the reason why he has achieved so much in his early part of his career, and we look forward to watching him continue to grow and elevate his role on the team." The deal, which was announced on Wednesday, has an average annual value of $900,000. "Emil is a skilled and offensive forward who has the ability to find the back of the net with an accurate shot," said Blue Jackets GM Jarmo Kekalainen. "He is young and still developing but we believe he has a lot of potential to become an important part of our organization over the next few seasons." Bemstrom notched six goals, 11 points, 62 shots and 36 hits in 41 games during the 2021-22 season. He averaged just 10:31 of ice time per contest.
