Now as good a time as any to have a wild card race in the 2022 NASCAR season — hence the Quaker State 400. The second Atlanta looms on Sunday after a chaotic first trip to the track earlier this year in March. How do we approach this race following the repave prior to this year knowing it’s still a 1.5-mile track in distance? Well, let’s look into the DFS strategy and then take a look at some of the top plays for DraftKings and FanDuel.

Quaker State 400 DFS Strategy

This weekend’s race might be a bit different than March’s race. Why is that? Well, they’ve not run a lap on the track yet this weekend as NASCAR cancelled practice for this race a month or so ago realizing it was useless. Due to the weather on Saturday, NASCAR cancelled qualifying. The beginning of the race will be fairly cautious in all likelihood as drivers feel out their cars in the first stage.  After that though, the intensity will ramp up and we’ll see some of the big wrecks we’re used to seeing at Daytona and Talladega. One thing that makes this race a tad different than others at Daytona or Talladega, Laps Led will matter with 267 laps in the race. We saw in March that a driver can lead bunches of laps a time. The other thing that makes it different is that Atlanta is narrower than those other tracks which makes racing tighter in the pack. However, like Daytona or Talladega it is a plate race and so banking on wrecks to happen is generally a good strategy. Check the Track Breakdown or the Podcast for more talk on strategies and drivers.

Average Points By Starting Spots

The charts below show the average points by starting spot over the last five plate style races. It is regardless of the drivers starting in those spots or why. They’re meant to give you a strategy guide and not a hard and fast rule to build lineups with.

Anyone is in play this week given the style of track it is. The drivers listed in the playbook are my favorite plays given their histories in these races.
