Trevor Story is not in the Red Sox’s starting lineup for Sunday’s game against the White Sox.

Story has struggled mightly since returning from the injured list in early August. The 30-year-old is hitting .188/.228/.297 with two homers and a dreadfully high 33.8 percent strikeout rate. With only a week to go, it remains unlikely that the veteran will find his stride. Pablo Reyes is batting seventh and will play shortstop in his absence.

The veteran reliever turned starter pitched well in Triple-A but struggled to a 12.91 ERA and 2.61 WHIP across 7 2/3 innings with the big league club. He will likely be on the hunt for another minor league contract this winter.

Kelly has missed most of the season as he recovered from below surgery in early April. He will likely pitch in lower-leverage situations during the final week of the season.
