Week 1 of the 2022 NFL season is here and the good news is, everyone is alive in their weekly survivor pools. These NFL survivor pools are extremely popular and many think it's simple. All you need to do is a pick one winner each week and you can only use a team once. It's more difficult than it appears and often times a popular pick gets upset in Week 1. The best thing is to play week to week. Many tend to look ahead and map out picks since a team is only allowed to be selected once, but it's risky. Others like to be contrarian and avoid the popular team because if it loses, a good portion of the pool is eliminated. Some NFL survivor pools pools have different rules with double elimination, so strategies can vary depending on the format.

The highest spread in NFL Week 1 odds is seven points. The Colts, Ravens and 49ers are all seven-point road favorites. This is a difficult week for survivor pools with many home underdogs in Week 1. Be sure to check out Fantasy Alarm's weekly matchup previews before making your survivor picks. Let's look at my top NFL survivor picks for the week.

NFL Week 1 Survivor Picks

1) Baltimore Ravens

It's odd to see so many road teams as the heavy favorites in Week 1 and the targets in a survivor pool. The Ravens disappointed last season with an 8-9 record and were hit hard by injuries, including quarterback Lamar Jackson. The Ravens opened the season at 8-3 before losing the final six games. The Ravens quarterback is healthy and gets a good matchup against a shaky Jets defense. The Ravens defense was ravaged by injuries last season, especially the secondary. The Ravens have been one of the better teams in the NFL the last several seasons and get a matchup against Joe Flacco. The Ravens had another undefeated preseason and are 10-4 in season openers under John Harbaugh.

2) Indianapolis Colts

It's always risky taking a road favorite in a divisional game, but the Colts are the better team and have won seven of the last eight matchups. The Colts dominated the Texans last season winning 31-0 and 31-3. Jonathan Taylor rushed for 288 yards and four touchdowns against the Texans last season and they still have one of the worst run defenses in the NFL. Matt Ryan is an upgrade over Carson Wentz at quarterback for Indianapolis.

3) San Francisco 49ers

The 49ers are the better team. The wild card is Trey Lance. While he has a lot of ability, he was inconsistent in training camp and accuracy is an issue. He has a lot of weapons to utilize with Deebo Samuel, George Kittle and Brandon Aiyuk and a potent running game, so he doesn't need to do much. The pass rush should fluster Justin Fields and the Bears offensive line is one of the weakest ones in the NFL. The Bears allowed 58 sacks last season and the 49ers have a good pass rush.
